History & Descriptions
Eleven Eleven Mississippi

The location for Eleven Eleven Mississippi was discovered in early February 2003. Once a part of the International Shoe factory, the restaurant portion of the complex was used to produce heels for women’s shoes. The space that existed was unrecognizable as anything but a shell of the building that had once existed. While many of those consulted thought the building required too much work to bring it to the level necessary to operate a first class restaurant. Paul and Wendy recognized the potential the space had to become one of the most uniquely designed restaurants in St. Louis. In addition, the charm of the Lafayette Square neighborhood and its close proximity to Downtown and all four major highways made it an ideal location for their new venture.

Demolition of the space started in August 2003 with construction starting closely thereafter. Despite several set-backs, construction moved along at a brisk pace. Paul & Wendy along with Wine Director Scott Gaghan and Executive Chef Ivy Magruder performed many construction projects on their own each evening as the main construction crew left for the day. All of the tuck-pointing, stone work, wall finishes, painting, wood finishing and most of the furniture was produced or refinished by Hamilton’s crew. The attention to detail conveyed on the building by the opening team is evident in the overall feel of the space as well as the attitudes of those that work there.

The doors officially opened on December 7 th, 2003 to an overwhelmed audience of friends and family. Since that time, Eleven Eleven has become one of the most recognized restaurants in St. Louis for delivering exceptional service and innovative cuisine. During its first year the restaurant was included in Zagat’s “ America’s Top Restaurants” and was voted “Best New Restaurant” in local publications. Eleven Eleven has since been voted “Favorite Overall Restaurant,” “Favorite Business Lunch” and the wine list has been recognized by Wine Spectator Magazine earning the “Award of Excellence”.

Moulin Events & Meetings

As Eleven Eleven grew in popularity, they received numerous requests to host large parties and special events. Due to the high demand at Eleven Eleven, Wendy and Paul were turning away hundreds of requests a year for private parties, corporate events, rehearsal dinners and social engagements.

They knew with the right opportunity, they could fill this niche and continue to deliver the high quality that Eleven Eleven guests came to expect from their food and service.

For over a year and a half, the Hamiltons looked at possible venues throughout the city of St. Louis. As it turns out, their future plans included the building owned by a long time patron located right down the street on Chouteau Avenue.

It took a great deal of vision and faith to realize that the building at 2017 Chouteau could be anything more than a neglected one hundred and thirty year old mill, but as many have pointed out; if it is wasn’t a reclamation project, the Hamiltons wouldn’t be interested.

The Hamilton’s vision included bringing the fond memories of their recent trip to the Provence region of France and the warm and inviting culture of southern France to St. Louis. They would use this theme throughout the development of 2017 Chouteau.

The name Moulin, French for “mill,” is derived from the building’s history as a mill for the Schnaider brewery on the south side of Chouteau Avenue.

Moulin is located on the Second Floor of 2017 Chouteau Ave and hosted its first event on April 29th, 2006, a wedding for 250+ guests. As the name indicates, Moulin Events and Meetings hosts weddings, rehearsal dinners, corporate, society and non-profit events. The interiors evoke the rich tradition of the buildings of that period with high ceilings and beams, arched windows, exposed brick and unbelievable views of the Arch and downtown St. Louis.

The Lafayette and Chouteau rooms can accommodate from 30-200 and the Centennial Ballroom can host 200-500 guests.  Moulin has its own banquet kitchen, features ample onsite and street parking and an elevator to the banquet space.

Executive Chef, Ivy Magruder, who opened Eleven Eleven will oversee operations of Moulin and describes the menu as simple, clean, fresh and approachable that includes a blend of some of the signature dishes from Eleven Eleven and Vin de Set.

We are honored that you are considering Moulin Events and Meetings. By choosing Moulin for your one of a kind event, you have chosen experienced event planners that will deliver unparalleled personal service, menu selections made from the freshest ingredients by our professionally trained culinary staff, served with unequalled service and attention to detail in a painstakingly restored historical landmark nestled in Historic Lafayette Square, the oldest neighborhood in the city of St. Louis.

Vin de Set Rooftop Bar and Bistro

Proprietors Paul and Wendy Hamilton and Executive Chef, Ivy Magruder’s trip to the Provence region of France in 2004 was more than a time to relax and enjoy a well deserved break. They were looking at bringing the warm and inviting local tradition of food and wine back to St. Louis to create their next restaurant.

So began the adventure that culminated with opening of Vin de Set in the summer of 2006 at the restored Centennial Mill building at 2017 Chouteau Avenue.

As was the case with Eleven Eleven Mississippi, which brought together the experience of Northern California and the Tuscan region of Italy, Vin de Set puts a decidedly American twist on a French bistro in a way that is be both comfortable and inviting.

Not to be confused with a traditional French restaurant, Vin de Set will offer food and ingredients experienced in Provence while delivering it in a recognizable and approachable way.

The name Vin de Set comes from the phonetic spelling of the French number 2017, the address on Chouteau Avenue. The bistro is located on the top floor with panoramic views of the Arch, Union Station, downtown St. Louis and the Lafayette Square neighborhood. Stunning original and unique architecture features like high ceilings, grand arched window views, an open air elevated loft, skylight ceiling and French doors adds to the dining experience.

In addition, Vin de Set hosts the only rooftop bistro and bar where guests can experience the full dinner menu, bistro menu or a glass of wine from the extensive global wine list. Warm sunsets, cool evening breezes and spectacular celestial viewing…all available in downtown St. Louis in the Lafayette square neighborhood.

We look forward to entertaining you, your friends and your family at Vin de Set Rooftop Bar and Bistro.
